Let’s talk immigration…🫣

I’ve been trying processing this matter, am I’m both baffled and broken by the moronic behaviour we’re experiencing in the UK at this time.
Let’s start by getting some facts straight…
❌ People seeking asylum are not entitled to the same state benefits as a British person. They are able to claim asylum support of up to £50 per week, and can get a one off payment of £300 if they’re pregnant. Could you live off that?
❌ The UK is home to just 1% of refugees. There are approximately 27 million refugees across the world, and the UK takes in some of the lowest numbers in Europe. Around 109k last year. If you think we have a problem, go and visit the refugee camps in Greece!
❌ The terms ‘Asylum Seeker’, ‘Refugee’ and ‘Migrant’ all have different meanings. Someone seeking asylum is somebody who has left their country to gain protection. A refugee is somebody who’s been granted this status based on fleeing persecution, conflict or serious human rights violations. Migrants are people who live outside of their home countries and are not seeking asylum. Such as my husband who is a Greek immigrant, or Brits who moved to other countries.
❌ Asylum seekers cannot choose where they live. They are housed on a ‘No choice’ basis. There are very few circumstances where this can be challenged.
❌ Asylum seekers do not get priority housing. There is no entitlement to housing association or council housing.
❌ It is not illegal to apply for asylum. People can take irregular passage but nobody is illegal. Claiming asylum is a legal human right. And if the UK carries on with the same trajectory, my family may also need to seek asylum in another country.
❌ You can only make an asylum application once you reach the UK. There is no visa process for entry, there is no way to claim asylum prior to arrival.
❌ The cost of asylum seekers to the UK is approximately £5.4 billion. The cost of tax avoidance is approximately £36 billion. YOU’RE LOOKING AT THE WRONG PEOPLE!!!
Ask yourself this…
❓If somebody is desperate enough to spend their entire life savings, leave their home country and loved ones behind, and risk their life to get here, what are they trying to escape from?
🤔 You may say: “But it’s all men” - likely because women and children wouldn’t survive the journeys. The men risk their lives to come here and set up a safe home for their families, then send for them later.
🤔 You may say: “But they’re feral” - if you fled for your life and left your family behind, and were met with hatred and treated like cattle, you’d probably be a little hostile too.
🤔 You may say: “They’re taking all our jobs” - they’re taking jobs that British people are too proud to do. They’re doing whatever they can to gain money and better their lives. They’re damn hard workers and put many British people to shame.
🤔 You may say: “They’re uneducated” - the likelihood is they’re far better educated than most Brits. Just because English isn’t their first language, doesn’t mean they’re dumb. They will learn English over time. Can you speak a second language?
It seems many people in the UK have lost their ability to use critical thinking. They have lost their abilities to use empathy and kindness. They have lost their humanity.
This whole thing is a political media campaign. Just like the recent transphobia campaigning. They’re targeting marginalised groups and causing innocent people to get ostracised, outcast and harassed. Sometimes violently.
👀 Open your eyes, folks. You’re being encouraged to be openly fascist. It’s amazing the people who are showing themselves up right now. It’s a ‘divide and conquer’ technique to distract us from what’s truly going on. We’re heading towards a very dark future if people refused to see the truth. The whole time people are jumping on bandwagons and expressing their hatred, the powers that be win. You’re just playing into the grand plan. We’ll be a nazi society before you know it.
We didn’t seem to have a problem with the Ukrainian refugees coming over. In fact many of us opened our homes to them. Is it because they’re white? The media told us we were safe to have them in our homes. But the media is telling us we’re not safe to have people of colour within our communities. THEY’RE ALL JUST PEOPLE!!! Human beings, just like you and I. And one day we may need their help too.
Ask yourself this…
❓Have you ever actually met an asylum seeker? Have you ever actually spent time to get to know them? To ask their story?
I have no doubt it would make you rethink everything.
There’s an amazing docuserise on Netflix called ‘You Can’t Ask That’. There’s a 30 minute episode about asylum seekers. Please watch it.
DON’T BE A MORON!
Rant over.
